The story of the Indian team’s World Cup campaign in 1983 will not be repeated. Coming into it, Sunil Gavaskar had scored 36 runs in 174 balls, batting out 60 overs in a match against England in 1975. In the previous two editions in 1975 and 1979, India won only one of its World Cup matches, including against East Africa. In a wonderful moment in the film, K. Srikkanth, played with panache by Jiiva, dismisses it as ‘not even a country, cobbled together by Gujju Bhai. It also lost to the then Rookies’ match against Sri Lanka in 1979, and as David wrote, ‘unless India loses the One-Day Game, they will have to withdraw from future World Cups’. The rest, as they say, is history.

Movie Review:
One of the biggest plus points of the movie is the way the makers created the overall pleasure. VFX used for all matches and recreating the past era will impress you. All the thrills and the various matches performed చాలా look very realistic in the second half. Ranveer Singh lived up to his role as Kapil Dev. Whether it was his make-up or bowling action, Ranveer Singh did an amazing job in this film. Deepika appears as Kapil’s wife and she is decent in her guest role. Pankaj Tripathi played the Indian team manager and he did an impressive job in his role.
Tamil actor Jeeva, who plays Krish Srikanth, is another asset to the film. Jeeva did an amazing job and made you believe that you are really looking at Srikanth batting and emotion on screen. Saqib Saleem played the role of Mohinder Amarnath very well. The second half of the film has some good patriotic moments and the real action on how India won the World Cup is shown here. The way real-life events are presented during interval bangs and matches is well thought out and authentic. All in all, 83 is a good sports drama that revives the Indian cricket team’s historic World Cup victory. Ranveer Singh played Kapil Dev brilliantly and the second half was filled with patriotic moments. The emotional drama in the film, however, is somewhat minimal. Apart from this, all those who love cricket will definitely connect to the film.
